God Knows and Cares

Are not five sparrows sold for two farthings, and not one of them is forgotten before God? But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not therefore: ye are of more value than many sparrows. Luke 12:6-7

Yesterday started out like most days – get up, eat breakfast, take a shower, etc. Holly was finished with her school work after lunch and went with my dad to run some errands. Gabe, Hannah and I worked on Science. There was nothing to blog about until Holly came home and reported, “We had a wreck! Some lady crashed into the back of Pappa’s van.” It was enough of a wreck to put a serious dent in the back of the van and knock it into the car in front of them. No one was hurt. Incidents like this and the “near misses” that we encounter always make me think of God and his attentiveness to every detail of our lives. It also causes me to consider all the “ordinary” days when nothing major happens. What unseen evil has God spared us from and we fail to acknowledge His presence?

Then, on the other hand, there are the senseless tragedies, making the highlights of my days trivial. What happened yesterday at Virginia Tech just should not have happened. Once again, we are shocked at the depravity of man. Hearts are grieved and there are no words to express our sorrow. The news is filled with “what could they have done” and at least one person mentioned that a “head will roll.” In the end, I am sure it will be the gun’s fault and more of our rights will be taken away.

The blame game can be played another day. Now is the time to take those who are hurting to the throne of grace, to the One who understands our sorrows.

He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: Isaiah 53:3a

Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God. Romans 8:26-27

Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you. 1 Peter 5:7

What a comforting post Karen - I wish more people would hop over here and read it. I love to think about all the things that God is sparing us from when we don't even know it. I am also seriously thankful that your dad and Holly are fine after the accident.
Take care!
Oh - and I love the new name of your blog! Can't wait to see your new design! I hope it is coming soon!

I am also amazed and thankful for the many times that His angels are actively watching over me. Sometimes I'm sure I haven't even been aware of all the near misses.
I'm am deeply saddened by the new about the shooting at Virginia-Tech. I feel sympathy all around. What drives someone to commit should a heinous crime? What will his family do? (Imagine being his Mom?!)How do the grieving families of the victims overcome this tragedy? They are in my thoughts and prayers.

GREAT post Karen. I hae been thinking a lot and listening to what has been transpiring in the aftermath. It is truly a tragedy. The tragedy only deepens with the blame game. Thank you for this poignant post.
