Thursday Thirteen Edition #37

There are many passages of comfort found in God’s Word. Here are just a few of my favorites.

1. But he knoweth the way that I take: when he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold. Job 23:10

2. In my distress I called upon the LORD, and cried unto my God: he heard my voice out of his temple, and my cry came before him, even into his ears. Psalm 18:6

3. The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit. Psalm 34:18

4. God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Psalm 46:1

5. Hear my cry, O God; attend unto my prayer. From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I. For thou hast been a shelter for me, and a strong tower from the enemy. I will abide in thy tabernacle for ever: I will trust in the covert of thy wings. Selah. Psalm 61:1-4

6. He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler. Psalm 91:4

7. How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! how great is the sum of them! If I should count them, they are more in number than the sand: when I awake, I am still with thee. Psalm 139:17-18

8. He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds. Psalm 147:3

9. For thou hast been a strength to the poor, a strength to the needy in his distress, a refuge from the storm, a shadow from the heat, when the blast of the terrible ones is as a storm against the wall. Isaiah 25:4

10. And though the Lord give you the bread of adversity, and the water of affliction, yet shall not thy teachers be removed into a corner any more, but thine eyes shall see thy teachers: And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left. Isaiah 30:20-21

11. Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee. Isaiah 26:3

12. Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding. He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength. Isaiah 40:28-29

13. Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness. Isaiah 41:10

Bonus - Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. Isaiah 53:4-5

Great post! I was familiar with most of them except for some of the ones in Isaiah. I need to re-read that book since it looks like a treasure trove just waiting to be re-discovered! :-)

Those are all wonderful bible verses. After reading them, my mom is now singing: "Be not afraid, I go before you always, Come follow Me, and I will give you rest." She sung for many years in Church Choir back in Canada, but hasn't found a good English-language choir here in Germany.

Thank you for sharing these verses. :)

Karen - I posted my code in the mister linky - but please go to my blog and read a prayer request - we have lost one of our new kittens. We can't find her anywhere.

BTW - this was a great post - super comforting verses. I need them right now - I am heartsick about the kitty.

The things I'm reading about God's goodness and faithfulness on blogs this afternoon are overwhelmeing. And then I come here and read your list and all I can do is ask WHY, GOD???
Why are You so good to us?
Why do You care so perfectly for us?
When we have sent You to the cross, why do You still love us?

He is good. All the time. And my heart overflows with praise and thanks for His love today.

Thanks for sharing these verses!

I love that so many of these passages are from Isaiah and Psalms. I read the Old Testament by myself for the first time last year. I'm also partial to Proverbs.

Wonderful verses--God is good, always. We need him in this sick world! (In my TT, I wrote a prayer about the Virginia Tech thing.)
