Love your ABC's. Since Jewel is only 4, summer homeschooling is mostly play. We have 2 more weeks to finish up Sonlight PreK year, then the focus is swimming lessons (already started), Geography and German. That's it until September. Should be enough!
I love your ABCs. :) I might have to borrow this idea.
I'm all about Z!
Fun list!
Great ABCs!
Here are some great WWII books that you and your son might enjoy.
"As Time Goes By: WWII Cookbook" It has recipes, but it also has a bunch of testimonies from WWII vets, wives, fun facts and song lyrics. www.twoteaspoonsinthyme.com.
I am currently reading "The Lioness of Judah A Jewish Lion Tamer's Memoir of Resistance and Survival." by Sara Hauptman who tells of what she went through and how she made false identidy papers, plus more before she was arrested and sent to Aushchwitz.
HI Karen,
I LOVE your creative ABC's of summer school! I only wish our "summer school" was so creative! Our summer plans include joining a swim team for the first time. My children have always loved to swim, but this year we decided it would be fun to take swimming to the next level. We are also continuing on in our math books, as math is something if you “don’t use it, you lose it” (at least in our family!!) and then we are doing science….right now it is nature studies. A couple weeks ago, we had some friends out to do a nature walk and play….and my children found a mulititude of turtles, frogs, a crab, a tadpole and a couple minnows. They set up a natural habitat for them in an aquarium and are caring for the critters, feeding them and observing them…this after spending hours pouring in Anna Botsford Comstock’s Handbook of Nature Study.
We also have planned some interest driven science this summer (when the interest in critters wanes!) and have started Crime Science Investagations by By Pam Walker & Elaine Wood. As big fans of various crime/detective shows, we have found this “curriculum” to be a blast! We have learned hand writing analysis, tire analysis, observation skills in examining “crime scenes” and have more to learn! This curriculum although written for classrooms, has been “tweakable” and brought a fun way to learn science in our home!!!
Blessings to you,
Deanne
Your summer plans look great. Loved the ABC's.
This summer must be the summer of Science. I've heard from so many people that they are doing science during the summer.. as are we. LOL.
Have a great week.
Very clever!
OK, I am not a homeschooler so I'm out of the loop on some of your lingo. Will you tell me what you mean by read alouds? Thanks!
