The High Cost of Moving Part 2 - Thursday Thirteen Edtion #44

Thanks to Karen at Write from Karen for the banner
Moving can be a costly adventure. Moving to another continent is even more so. Most people do not consider the financial cost of a missionary, or others living overseas, coming home. All of our appliances were European except for our refrigerator so we had to sell them and buy new ones. Here are some things that we have had to buy to settle in here and make this home functional:
- Washer
- Dryer
- Toaster
- Iron
- Blow dryer
- Microwave oven (OK, it’s not a necessity but my family thinks it is.)
- Can opener (Just a manual one. They are cheaper and they fit in a drawer)
- Vacuum cleaner
- Swiffer wet jet ( I hate traditional mops)
- Broom
- Dust pan
- Shelves for the laundry closet
- Over the door shoe holders for vertical storage

We had to buy a lot of that stuff too because we sold it with our house - or it just wasn't cost effective to pay to move things that were so old anyway!
And WOW you are at 44 for your Thursday Thirteen! I haven't participated in a while. Maybe I'll jump back in later. I'm busy with other things right now!
A microwave is definitely a necessity for me, but not the blow dryer or the iron (I rarely, if ever, use either of mine). :-)
Karen, I love your blog...I believe this may be my first time to visit, but I'll definitely be coming back!
I have a soft spot for missionaries, as my parents were missionaries during my growing-up years.
Great TT. Thanks for visiting mine!
You're right..I never gave it any thought.
I'm looking forward to going back and reading more of your blog. It's really interesting!
Thanks for stopping by!
All right, no TV. But at least get a radio. LoL, Lyn
I blogged an entry yesterday 'blogs I love to visit' and added yours as a blog well worth visiting. I shall get you a NZ fridge magnet whilst out shopping today! Would love to hear more about your times in Romania, if you feel led to share them.
I'm with you on the microwave and non-traditional mops!
It all adds up, doesn't it? Did you get brand new appliances. This is my first time having brand new, and I LOVE it- especially my dishwasher!
I guess the good thing about selling your appliances in Europe was that you didn't have to pack and ship them back.
I hope you get a chance to relax and get your feet up after your shopping and unpacking.
Oh my, I see 3 things on your list I need to buy! lol Mitch and I would like to move in the next few months, so I'm weeding out stuff I know I won't want to take to a new house. I hope the apartment feels homey for you all SOON.
Hugs
DK
P.S. I LOVE Hannah's doll collection!
oh ikkk. That's why I ever dread having to move overseas. So afraid of what it'll end up REALLY costing in the end. Love the list those, accurate and true.
