A Taste of Routine
The last two days have been great. I have rediscovered routine, or at least tasted it. Monday morning and today we were able to accomplish some school work. We went to the grocery store just before lunch and I planned on going to the library. But just before time to leave, a terrible storm began. It poured buckets and the thunder and lightening were ferocious. Lightening struck somewhere, so close that it shook the entire apartment building. Finally, it let up enough for us to leave. I had left the window open, just a crack, because it has been so hot out. I think in a normal downpour, it would have been alright. Today’s storm, however, practically rivaled Noah’s and the side of the seat was wet enough to soak the seat of my pants. We had to return home for a change of clothes.
The library that we went to today is brand new. Yesterday was opening day. After spending many years on the foreign field with no English library at all, any library is nice. But I must say that the one we went to in Alabama is a cracker box in comparison to the one here and it is technologically behind. The girls, especially Holly, were thrilled with the system here. You scan your own card and books. I admit that I found it fun too. This new library is a couple of miles further than another branch but I am sure it will be our regular one to visit. We didn’t even go upstairs yet!
John and Gabe ended up staying home. John got dinner started and then worked on more household organization. One huge improvement was moving my computer. It was in our bedroom and now it’s in the living room. It has made some room in the corner of our bedroom for storing some of our Rubbermaid tubs. I know that’s not the most attractive idea but it looks better there than in the living room. It may take us another week or so to get settled but we are getting there one step at a time. How long did it take you to unpack and settle in the last time you moved?

Sounds like a nice day other than the rain storm!
We've lived here a little over a year, and I still have boxes to unpack! AND...it looks like we're moving again...but you know all about that!
Thanks for helping check our Mr. Linky...and especially for adding me to your google reader!
Have a blessed week!
I found you through a comment you left on another blog, so I hope you don't mind me chiming in. We are still unpacking and we moved in last September. We also had moved three months before that, so I do not plan on being fully unpacked for a while. I am a stay-at-home foster mom who can't turn her back on her kids for fear of a physical altercation. We are still trying to get enough furniture, so every time I think it looks okay we get a new piece of furniture and we have to change everything around.
Have a great week!
we moved into our house 2 1/2 years ago and shoved our junk in our crawl space- most of it is still sitting there.
A library big enough for two floors...I'm salivating!
I'm kind of a crazy unpacker! When we first got to TX - we only took the essentials to our apartment and put everything else in storage. When we got things to our new house - they were unpacked immediately. I'm a bit obsessive - and can't stop until every box is unpacked. What messed me up is that Travis kept bringing a load every few days and just when I would think I was almost done, he would bring more. Thankfully now it seems everything has a place. It is really starting to feel like home now. I think I am glad.
The last time we moved, it was just across the driveway. Not much unpacking to do!
However we are currently investigating making a move which will actually require packing and a moving van. Scary!
I may need you to send me notes of confidence every now and then, just reminding me that you made it through and I will, too!
Sounds like you all are getting settled in. Nothing like a good library to make you feel at home!
Thanks for stopping by my blog :)
I'm so happy you have a routine again. Routines can be very comforting to us at times.
Ummm... you mean EVERYTHING is supposed to be unpacked? ;-) BTW I know that you have already received the Blogger Reflection Award, but I also wanted to pass this one on to you. Since you have already blogged about your past awards and have passed it on to others, you can just put this award up with the others on your mantle... er, I mean your Tupperware tubs. :-) And then come on over and read the nice words I said about you.
Hey Karen! I'm dropping by to say hi. I'd fallen off the blog-o-sphere for a while, and am trying to get caught up on everyone's blogs again. Welcome back to the U.S.! It must be nice to be home again. By the way, we have one of those new, fancy libraries, too, where you scan your own books, etc. My kids love it, as well. It's actually the whole county-wide system (King County, WA -- Seattle area).
I'm still at HSB, but also have a new blog at blogger, and a website! If you have time, you can visit me at those. The website is still a work in progress, but it's getting there. Really don't like the template -- need to figure out a better one.
Have a great day!
