Homeschool Memoirs: #4 Something New

somethingnew

I am a bit behind in my Homeschool Memoirs. For week four, we are supposed to share something new that we are using in our homeschool. I am trying several new things this year. Some of them we haven't even started yet. One that we have and is a huge success is Math-U-See . For many years, Gabriel has asked me to find a math program that teaches a concept and then lets you work on it for a few days. Math-U-See hit the bull's eye and I am relieved that he is no longer frustrated with math. Hannah is using it too and loves it as well. (They are both doing high school geometry this year.)

Another thing that I love (because my kids love it) is the SAT Vocabulary Cartoon book. This is awesome for children who are visual learners and probably for those who aren't. The pictures make the words make sense. I will be buying them all!

My kids are using MUS as well. Finally ... a program that a math-challenged mom like me can master! :-)

Loved your blog, btw!

Wow, so glad to hear you say that about math. Our oldest, Amber, is the same way - great at math, but became very frustrated at how most curriculums jump from one concept to another without letting you live with it for a while to really learn & know it. We had switched to Systematic Math for her a couple of years ago and that did the trick as well. This year she is doing Teaching Textbooks - trying it out - so far, so good.
