A Storm, a Water Leak and Packing

Tropical storm Hanna brought us some rain and winds but it really wasn't a bad storm, at least not here at our place. We received a notice on Friday from the apartment manager that because of the storm, everything had to be removed from the balcony. So in the midst of packing for a vacation and trying to clean house, we had to find room in the living room for five bicycles, two scooters, a box of outdoor toys, two boxes of things being stored out there and a stool. Needless to say, the balcony is just a storage spot. It would be nice to have a table and chairs and sit out there to read or sip hot chocolate on cool mornings. But in reality, there are only a few days that the weather would be perfect for that and the view isn't anything to talk about.

John and the kids have gone on a trip. This is the first time in almost two decades that I have been so alone. I have a lot to do while they are gone so I'm sure the time will go by quickly. I don't mind not going. I don't like traveling and I despise packing. John always packs his own things. Gabriel and Hannah are old enough to do their own now as well. Holly is getting there. Yesterday, while everyone was busy filling suitcases, John went to the kids' bathroom in search of some Q-tips. I heard him say something like, "We've got a big problem in here!" I wasn't sure if he was talking about the fact that we had too many bottles of sunscreen or the fact that it was a highly disorganized area. I went to see what he was talking about and found him pulling out the plastic storage containers. They were filled and overflowing with water! There was a leak under the sink and water was slowly spraying everywhere. It's a very good thing we had the plastic containers to hold it all! He immediately told the office. Water leaks are considered an emergency. It only took two hours for the guy to come and get it fixed.

The hour is late and I must get up early. My kindergarten class has grown from 13 to 17 students. More on that tomorrow. . . How was your weekend?

I hope today wasn't too stressful with those extra kids. How is your voice?

If your girls decide to make the patchwork hearts, please send me a picture. I'd love to see them!
