Pressure – It can turn a lump of coal into a flawless diamond or an average person into a perfect basket case.
2007 is a year that would probably make it into my “Top Ten Toughest Years” list if I had one. It would be up there with 1997 and our first term to Romania, learning a language and a culture while enduring months of "morning" sickness. 1999 would be on there too. It started out with a frantic trip to the Romanian emergency room to stitich up my tiny baby’s severed finger. Mid-year we left the country that we had so grown to love in spite of many hardships. Each of those years is at least a chapter in my book that I will one day write. I know that life can be worse but one thing that I have learned is that when you are in your personal storm, life is dark and frightening.
This year has had a lengthy list of challenges. Thankfully I’ve discovered blogging and I’ve already shared many of them with you. Looking at the distress and adversity alone would truly make me a basket case. Praise the Lord that I have Him to cling to, rely on and trust even when life becomes overwhelming. Praise the Lord that I also have a list of blessings that cause the account of burdens to look meager at best.
Here are a few blessings off the top of my head and in no particular order. I may add more as I think of them.
· A husband who loves me
· And provides for his family
· Awesome children
· A comfortable home
· Health
· Time spent with my parents
· Cars to get us where we need to go
· And back again
· Salvation
· Eternal security
· God’s Word for comfort and instruction
· Peace of God
· And peace with God
· Unexpected gifts both financial and material
· The internet so that we can easily talk with friends in Romania
· Making new friends
· Gabe’s success at Chick Fil-A
· God’s great love for me
· Mercies that are new every morning (read between the lines – we don’t have to wait until January 1 to start over)
· Answered prayer
· You, my dear friend, who cares enough to read my blog
How has God blessed you this year?
