Prisoner of Circumstance Contest

Here is a book that I am going to read just as soon as I get a copy. It is written by my blogging friend, Nadine. I might even win a copy in her contest that is going on now. You can too! Check it out on her blog.

· What was the best book you read this spring? Hmmm. . . well that’s hard to say. When I made my list, we had only been in the states for one week. I did not have any clue what the next few months would hold. I did not get in as much reading as I would have liked to do. The reading that I did do was rather sporadic and when I would pick up a book, I really wasn’t sure what all had taken place in the previous chapters. So, although I enjoyed the books on my fiction list, there wasn’t anything that was inspirational, a tear jerker or memorable. From my non-fiction list I would say the best was the most helpful – Finding Your Path by Mitch Raymer. And who can choose from the books of the Bible that I listed? The ones I listed are already among my faves.

· What book could you have done without? The Unfolding of Language by Guy Deustcher I wouldn’t say that I could do without this book. I could have just left it off the list for now. I started this but just didn’t get past the first chapter. When I was in the mood to read, I wanted something lighter. I would like to read it someday in the future. Unfortunately, it belongs to my sister-in-law and I need to return it before we move.

  • Did you try out a new author this spring? If so, which one, and will you be reading that author again? Mitch Raymer Yes, if he writes another book!
  • If there were books you didn't finish, tell us why. Did you run out of time? Realize those books weren't worth it? I am not sure if it was a complete lack of time or too much blogging!
  • What was the best part of the Spring Reading Thing? Challenging myself to read even when life gets busy.
  • Would you be interested in participating in another reading challenge this fall? I’ll be there!
  • Any other thoughts, impressions, or comments. We just returned from a 1300 mile road trip without the kids. I brought two books thinking I would have tons of time to read in the van. On the way up, I actually slept half way. That is NOT the norm for me. On the way back, John and I had so much planning to do and we also listened to Frank Peretti that we down loaded onto an MP3 player. You can find the link here. It was awesome and is now on the “must listen to” list for my kids. Anyway, I think I read two chapters while we were gone.

Beginning to Think About the Fall

Our local homeschool co-op had a used book sale Tuesday evening. I rushed through dinner and headed out the door with cash in hand, not having a clue what I was looking for. We are not done with this school year and I had hardly given thought to the fall. I figured that we will probably do American History and American Literature as two of our high school subjects. I found the book Whatever Happened to Penny Candy? by Richard J. Maybury and decided that we will also do a semester on Economics. I bought some books on Ancient Egypt and will either do a unit with Holly on that subject or use some of them with Gabe and Hannah as supplemental materials when we do World History. I bought two videos to go along with the Geography we are doing this summer. They had an amazing price of 50 cents each so I couldn’t pass them up. One wasn’t even opened! Here is a picture of my acquisitions:

One sweet lady threw in the ACT book for free. Now, I just have to find a place to put them! Have you made your plans for the coming school year?
