Homeschool Memoirs: #4 Something New

somethingnew

I am a bit behind in my Homeschool Memoirs. For week four, we are supposed to share something new that we are using in our homeschool. I am trying several new things this year. Some of them we haven't even started yet. One that we have and is a huge success is Math-U-See . For many years, Gabriel has asked me to find a math program that teaches a concept and then lets you work on it for a few days. Math-U-See hit the bull's eye and I am relieved that he is no longer frustrated with math. Hannah is using it too and loves it as well. (They are both doing high school geometry this year.)

Another thing that I love (because my kids love it) is the SAT Vocabulary Cartoon book. This is awesome for children who are visual learners and probably for those who aren't. The pictures make the words make sense. I will be buying them all!

Math Rhymes

This afternoon, Holly and I were working on multiplication facts. She knows the 1-3 tables and we are working on the 4-6’s. I made up a rhyme to help her with one and she loved the idea and wanted me to make up rhymes for all of the ones we were working on. It was fun and I will probably work on some for the rest. Here’s what I came up with on the spur of the moment. Has anyone else done something similar? Share your ideas!

6x4 we’ve done before 6x4 is 24

6x5 is not a birdie, 6x5 is the number 30

6x6, just pick up sticks, 6x6 is 36

6x7 you know it’s true, 6x7 is 42

6x8 is really great, 6x8 is 48

6x9 is not a chore, 6x9 is 54

Don’t forget about the Homeschool Blog Awards. I have been browsing some of the nominees and I am humbled to be named among them. Not too humble to ask for your vote however! Thanks!
