The Slightest Breeze

School is almost over and then maybe I'll have some breathing room. Meanwhile - here is a poem that I found on Gabriel's bulletin board. I swiped it temporarily so that I could share it here.

The slightest breeze that ever blew
Some slender grass has wavered,
The smallest life I ever knew
Some other life has flavored.
We cannot live our lives alone
For other lives we touch
Are either strengthened by our own,
Or weakened just as much.

A Place in Your Heart

There was a time when I wrote poems more frequently. Many still rattle around in my head but it seems difficult to find the time to put them down on paper. Some day, I need to do that. For now, here is a poem that I wrote for John on Valentine's Day of 2006.

A Place in Your Heart

Life without you was a lifetime ago,

A far away place

Where I don’t want to go.

Days without you are dreary and gray,

A place full of gloom

Where I don’t want to stay.

Life spent with you – with you near to me,

A place in your heart

Is where I want to be.

The Storm

Here is a poem that I wrote nearly two years ago. I pray it will be an encouragement for someone to draw closer to God when life is smooth and when the storms rage.

The Storm

I see the storm clouds gathering,

I hide and cringe in fear.

I’ve seen clouds like these before,

Oh, Lord, be ever near.

I’ve felt how hard the winds can blow.

I was almost lost at sea.

My sails so torn and powerless.

Oh, Lord stay close to me.

I am afraid of this new storm

And the damage it can do.

What will be left of my heart in the end?

Oh, Lord, I draw close to You.

You are my rock, my strong tower.

In You I have no fear.

You are my strength from day to day.

You will be ever near.

“Fear thou not,” I hear You say

Out on the stormy sea.

You will uphold me by Your Right Hand.

You will stay close to me.

You are the Rock where I can hide

Until the storm is through

I will find shelter under Your wings

I will draw close to You.

Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.

Bio Poem

We have had some busy days and some technical difficulties with our new server. So, there has been little time for blogging or anything else online. I thought I would share a bio poem that I did on my old blog when I first started blogging. The line about my fears was written when we were in Romania without libraries and bookstores. The first two on that line are real!

Karen
Optimistic
Wife to John and mother of Gabriel, Hannah and Holly
Lover of her family, reading and chocolate
Who feels good after drinking orange juice in the morning, playing games with her children and snuggling on the couch with her husband
Who needs the Lord, His mercy and His grace
Who gives what she cannot keep to gain what she cannot lose
Who fears snakes, frogs and running out of books to read
Who would like to see Hawaii once, New England once and California one more time
Book Lover
