Tag

It's Friday evening and I cannot think of a single blog-worthy thing. So I thought I would do a tag that Hannah has on her blog.

2 things you like: reading and singing

2 things you hate: tardiness and mushrooms

2 things you want right now: pizza and chocolate

2 things you want in life: God's favor and grace

2 things you are doing right now: blogging and thinking about going to Michael's to exchange something.

2 things you'd rather be doing: something other than blogging? Wow, that's tough! Reading and . . . sun bathing in Hawaaii

2 things you hear right now: The quiet hum of my computer and the sweet chatter of my girls

2 things you smell right now: Nothing yet because I haven't put the pizza in the oven yet.

2 things that are right in front of you: My gloves and Holly's blush brush (why are those things on my desk??)

2 things that are behind you: my cedar chest and a bunch of clutter that needs to be cleaned up

2 things that make you happy: singing and being with my family

2 things that make you sad: people rejecting Christ and people being cruel to others

2 things you think will happen tomorrow: sleeping in late (say 7:30-8:00 am) and cleaning house

2 things you know will happen tomorrow: Sorry, can't answer that one -

Boast not thyself of to morrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth. Proverbs 27:1

2 people you will tag: You and Everyone else!

So what's going on around your house tonight?

What I Was Doing

I saw this tag on Karen’s blog and thought I would join in.

1) What I was doing ten years ago:
September of 1997 we were in Romania for the first time. We had only been there for two months. Two of the most difficult months of my life. Just to add to that, I found out that we were expecting Holly just two weeks after we arrived. I had a horrible case of all day sickness that lasted 9 months. John and I had just started taking Romanian lessons. A simple thing like talking made me nauseous. That made language lessons and homeschooling much more challenging. I consumed peppermints continuously. So many that even now I cannot stand the thought of them.

2.) Five years ago:

We had been in Romania for our second term for six months. My 4oth birthday was coming up and I was so blue. We had met a lot of people but none of them were really friends yet. I did not want to turn 40 yet I didn’t want such a milestone to go by without a celebration. Poor John didn’t know what to do with me! He ended up fixing me a nice dinner and he and the kids bought me some gifts. It was a good day and the next day I woke up feeling like the same person. I realized I was making a big deal out of a silly number.

3) One year ago:

I am amazed that one year ago today, I never dreamed that we would be back in the states. My first few months in Romania a decade ago was a nightmare. I could have left the country and never looked back. But over time, I learned to love the country and the people. Last September I assumed that we would spend many more years there. I never dreamed that God would ask us to return to the States, leaving our hearts behind.

4.) Yesterday:

Yesterday I subbed in a first grade classroom. One thing I love about substitute teaching is that when the kids are gone, the school day is over. There aren’t any lesson plans or all the many other things to do. And if a class is particularly difficult, and some are, I don’t have to go back!

5.) 5 snacks I enjoy:

Nacho chips and salsa, Double stuffed Oreo cookies, peanut butter crackers, brownies, anything with cheese.

6.) 5 Things I would do if I suddenly had $100 million
What wouldn’t I do if I had that much money?? I’d buy a house. I’d buy my parents’ a house – here of course! I’d buy a jet so we could fly comfortably to Romania and anywhere else. I’d buy myself a new car and I’d buy John a new car. I would NOT buy my kids a car. I’ve told them over and over. I don’t care if I had a million dollars, that is something they have to earn themselves.

7.) 5 locations I would like to run away to:

Romania, San Diego, Hawaii, Alabama, Mexico

8.) 5 bad habits I have:
You don’t really think I have any bad habits do you?

9.) 5 things I like doing:
Reading, Bible study, playing games – especially word games, being with my family, blogging

10.) 5 TV shows I like:
LOST, HGTV, that’s about it

11.) 5 things I hate doing:
Washing dishes, cleaning the bathroom, putting away the laundry, cutting up raw chicken, moving

12.) 5 Biggest joys of the moment:
Being where God wants me to be (or trying to anyway!), spending time with my husband and kids, singing in the music group at church – tomorrow is our first time, the cool fall breeze coming through my open window, My friend, Monica, from Romania who just called me to wish me a happy birthday!

Five Things I'd Like My Children to Know

Karen tagged me with this meme about a month ago. I’ve put it off due to lack of time for one. The other reason is how do I put into five thoughts all the things that I want my kids to know before they grow up?

Here are the Meme instructions:

"I've been thinking lots about the things that I want my kids to know before "they grow up" and thought this is a good thing to meme on...

So the meme challenge is...

Those tagged will share 5 Things You Want Your Kids To Know "Before They Grow Up"

Those tagged will tag 5 people.

Those tagged will leave a link to their meme in the comments section of Claire's post so everyone can keep track of what's being posted.

So let the sharing of wisdom and tagging begin!

PS you DONT have to have kids to do this... "

That being said, here’s my list. Actually, I think they already know these things but I want them to remember them for the rest of their lives.

1. That I love them with all my heart, no matter what, always and forever.

2. That God loves them even more than I do.

3. That God will be with them even when I can’t.

4. That He is faithful and true.

5. That they would learn to see beyond today and beyond themselves.

Let me know if you decide to join in on this tag or if you've already done it. I'd love to read your list.

Tripple Tagged

For this tag I am supposed to list random things about me. I was tagged by THREE people! Two said to list 7 things and one said to list 10.

  1. I have a phobia of frogs which is almost as intense as my phobia of snakes but not quite.
  2. One year when I was a preteen and home alone, I opened all my Christmas presents and wrapped them back up. No one ever found out (I did admit the truth when I was grown) but it spoiled my Christmas and to this day, I don’t like to know what I am getting until Christmas morning.
  3. Pamela Anderson is my sister-in-law. No, not THE Pamela Anderson but that is her name.
  4. I like doing tags but I dislike tagging people.
  5. One of my nicknames in college was Meryl because people thought that I looked like Meryl Streep.
  6. My freshman year of college I was a drama major.
  7. I can usually finish a book in just a few days, maybe a week or so if it’s long. The current book I am reading is an easy book and I’ve had to renew it twice. It is interesting enough but I just have so much else going on.
  8. I am not a salesperson. I have tried to sell jewelry, makeup and Tupperware and was a complete failure. My mom has always said that my dad can sell ice cubes to Eskimos. I did not inherit his talent. I cannot sell hacksaws in a jail cell. It probably has something to do with my not liking to tag people.
  9. I was tagged by three different people for this tag; 2 for 7 random things and 1 for 10 random things. I have stressed out, for about 10 seconds, about whether to do 7 or 10 things on this tag but since I can still think of things to say, I will do one more.
  10. I am going shopping this morning with my daughter for scrapbooking supplies. I generally don’t like shopping, especially for clothes but I love buying things for scrapbooking.

Because of #4, I am not going to tag any specific person. But if you have ended up here and like to do tags, consider yourself tagged and have fun! Thanks to Karen, De and Sheryl for tagging me!
